Glowing above of what can only be described as a shack stall window stands a florescent fuchsia clock. The words ‘Always a good… for doughnuts’ are written around the hands of the emblem which can be spotted from a quarter of a mile away. Adjacent to this cozy opening is ultimate doughnut heaven. Displayed through the lit glass window are a mix of large, multicolored doughnuts from sweet jam filling treats to creamy Nutella delights.

Outside the shop bundle keen customers with the likes of Instagram savvy teens snapping photos and vlogging entries to their first, Aussie hand-dipped, doughnut experience. The Australian based shop opened its first overseas ‘Doughnut Time’, in Shaftesbury Avenue in late October last year and it is now one of three chains in London. This bright green shop is based in one of the liveliest parts of London where the lanterns of Chinatown run down the street. Menu? There is no menu... well not on show. Its quick and fast like its youthful image and the names of the doughnuts are just as fun as the service.
The ‘Hans Rolo’ option was a combination of salted caramel and milk chocolate garnished with dark chocolate flakes and Rolos. As soon as the retro styled box - which shows it’s Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne roots - was opened, a waft of rich coco scents filled the air. Fluffy and thick, it had a doughy taste packed with milky, fudge. The icing showed a tiger pattern with a blend of beige and brown stripes, and each Rolo was attached with a dash of caramel sauce.

On the other hand, The Notorious P.I.G – a play on the iconic name of rapper Notorious B.I.G - was a much sweeter option. It had an intense taste of Percy Pig candy and an aromatic essence of sweetened strawberry. The velvety doughnut was glazed with strawberry butter cream, with a flourish of hundreds and thousands on top. It’s light fruity flavor was a little too heavy and at some points the sugar hit gave a ‘can I carry on?!’ bloated feeling.

Both doughnuts definitely fulfilled their descriptions and with its unique outlet and great delivery to customers it’s a place worth visiting. Prices are on the expensive side - doughnuts range from £4-5 and packs can be bought at discounted prices - but they won’t break the bank!
